About Me

Who is Kris Nelson?

By trade, I am an Application Development Manager working for a software company specializing in hosted, web-based applications. I spend much of my working hours overseeing and participating in the design and development of multiple web-based applications and development teams, both in the US and in India. But that's how I make a living for my wife and I. There's a different part of me that is responsible for the recreational web development you see here.

While I love what do for a living, most of my passion and creativity comes out into the sites that bear the webnelly.com name. This is where I get to play online and share everything and anything I want to, from vacation itineraries to wedding photos to the latest high school hockey scores. And as my life continues to grow and my world expands around me, so to will the sites I have created, and the ones I haven't even started yet.

History

webnelly.com was the first site I created and published on the web, back in June 2001. By that time, I had already been doing computer programming in one form or another for about 8 years, whether it was middle school, high school, or in college. Ever since then, I always had known I would be doing something with computers as a career, but it wasn't until I started playing around with web development did it really occur to me that this would be so much more than just a career and a paycheck.

Passions

As you can see from different themes in my sites, there are a range of things I am passionate about. My loving wife, my extended family, ice hockey, trance music, and a healthy obsession with the Valley Isle, all have special places in my heart. These are the things that I truly enjoy surrounding myself with, and what keep me motivated and support me in my professional career.

My wife and I wed in 2003, and we had been together for six years prior to that. We have made it a goal of ours to return to Maui every year, and our latest trip is planned for April, 2008. We're both a little nuts about hockey, and I played ever since I was 3 years old up through high school. In 2001, I became the assistant coach for the high school team I used to play for, and have been doing that every winter since.

The Future

I have always had a thirst for knowledge and learning, and it has always been a motto of mine to "never stop learning." I think that's one of the reasons that web development, and technology in general, have always intrigued me so much. It's always changing, and there's always something new to learn, and experiment with, and expand on.

To that point, there's really no telling what the next big thing for me is going to be. There are quite a few things I'm interested in adding to my different sites, and other tasks I've been meaning to get to for years. I read a lot - mostly technology and software development books - and I've always wanted to write at least one. And then there's the dream about living in Maui for a year, but I'll leave it at that for now...
